Gridfirst Advisory

Carl Rodgers

Principal, Gridfirst Advisory

Carl Rodgers is the principal of Gridfirst Advisory. He spent seven and a half years running energy and carbon at Toronto Pearson, responsible for the energy master plan of a 16.5 million square foot, 24/7 campus with its own gas cogeneration plant: dispatch against HOEP, curtailment, demand response and Global Adjustment, weighed against the airport’s GHG targets. He modelled the airport’s decarbonization pathways to 2050 against an 80-million-passenger case and built the pathway the airport carried forward, and he wrote ASHRAE 189.1 into Pearson’s construction standard, which new buildings there have been designed to since. In 2014 the GTAA ranked first in Corporate Knights’ Future 40 Responsible Corporate Leaders in Canada. Before Pearson he worked on the design side of high-performance buildings across Canada.

In 2026 his work is Ontario’s data-centre approvals. He coded the full Hamilton hearing and the Mississauga record to establish what residents actually asked for, wrote The Community’s Terms from that record, and built the standard they sit in, The Approvable Data Centre, reviewed by, not endorsed by, the data-centre lead at a national engineering firm.

Carl served as a council-appointed citizen member of the City of Mississauga Environmental Advisory Committee from 2013 to 2015, alongside Councillors George Carlson (chair), Jim Tovey and Frank Dale (City of Mississauga, Environmental Advisory Committee agenda, June 4, 2013, listing members).
